Ministry Leader: Norma Mendez

Soles for Souls

Provide new tennis shoes, socks, underwear, and toiletries for students serviced through FBISD Shared Dreams and LCISD Common Threads programs. Soles for Souls also provides shoes on an as-needed basis for families in the Fort Bend Family Promise program and other ministries as requested. Soles for Souls holds a yearly campaign in August to collect new tennis shoes, socks and accept money donations. Soles for Souls is also in the GIFT Catalog as an alternative gift selection for people.

FBISD Shared Dreams

This program provides short-term assistance to address insecurities related to clothing, toiletries, food, and school supplies for registered Fort Bend ISD students. The needs of the students are assessed by a campus nurse, counselor, or district social worker. Shared Dreams aims to help students close the gaps in their needs and achieve academic success.

The Shared Dreams program includes new and gently used clothing items. Fort Bend ISD has a student population of 80,000, of which 52% belong to economically disadvantaged families. The students eagerly look forward to receiving new shoes, as it is one of the rare occasions when they walk into the halls and feel like their peers. Christ Church is the most significant contributor of new shoes to the program, providing thousands of dollars of support throughout the school year.

LCISD Common Threads

LCISD Common Threads is a clothing assistance program committed to providing clothing for families with school aged children. By providing with the basic necessities to attend school, they are more confident about themselves and better able to focus on educational goals.

Enrolled students are allowed 2 visits per calendar school year. Uniform and non-uniform clothing is offered to the students at no cost to their family.  On their 1st visit 3 tops 3 bottoms, socks & underwear and a pair of shoes are given. On their 2nd visit 3 tops, 3 bottoms and a jacket. This program allows support to ease the financial burden. (We have a yearly event (their 1st visit) HOPE ON THE BRAZOS that happens in the fall to give opportunities for shopping for the coming school year).

Toiletries are given to our homeless/hotel families. We also have opportunities for volunteers if you want to get involved in our mission.

To donate to this ministry financially, please select ‘Missions Donations’ and type ‘Soles for Souls’ in the memo line when giving online.
